Update on SMFA Part-time Lecturer Union Negotiation

Dear A&S faculty and staff,

I am happy to share that negotiations with the SMFA part-time lecturers (PTLs) have successfully concluded. The union membership has ratified the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

All PTLs at Tufts School of Arts and Sciences (including SMFA PTLs) are represented by SEIU Local 509 and governed by a CBA which was negotiated and ratified last year. That agreement runs through 2027. This spring, by agreement with the union, the CBA was reopened solely on the terms and conditions of compensation for SMFA faculty, which has now been settled.

I wish to thank all of the members of the negotiating teams for their hard work and constant commitment to arriving at a fair agreement and look forward to continuing to work with our part-time lecturers, and all members of our community, to support our students.
